Design can make a change

The English travel writer Bruce Chatwin wrote about a group of white explorers who were trying to force the pace of their African porters. The porters, within sight of their destination for the day, sat down and refused to move. As they explained to their frustrated employers, "we are waiting for our spirits to catch up with our bodies."

This is the beginning of the chapter Speed in the book "In the bubble, Designing in a complex world" by John Thackara.
The book is about how suistainable changes can be made by creating better designsolutions. The chapter about speed questions many of the existing ideas about time and speed.

At the webpage http://socialdesignsite.com/ there's many interesting designprojects aiming at making social changes.

I am convinced that design has a very strong impact on our society, therefor we as designers need to take the responsibility to create designsolutions that will go towards a suistainable future.
